It's that point of yr again: playset season. The time when an incredible number of parents prepare yourself to pay out thousands of dollars for small-scale yard jungle gyms for his or her beloved children.For years I'd were able to successfully avert this dependence on suburban family life. And then, 1 day something happened.I cracked.I can't even blame my kids. They never badgered me or complained. I'm not sure they sought a playset. No. I needed one.If we were outdoors in the backyard my kids wandered around aimlessly, invariably returning inside to the sofa. I wanted to shoo them again outside the house and shout, "Go play!" But with what? We didn't have a pool or swings or even a paved driveway to sketch on. I made a decision for my very own sanity and their survival we needed a playset.Visions of warmer summer months times whiled away over a swingset or in the attached fort with children's laughter floating by on a balmy air flow, danced in my own head. But I wanted one thing to be properly clear. If I was going to take out another mortgage to financing a playset, my kids were going to have to go on it--literally.The playset we eyed-up got a house-like enclosure and a picnic table and was practically as large as my house. It had been certainly the right dwelling for just two smallish people. They could come inside for the winter however, not until then. And if we ran some electric wiring and domestic plumbing to the fort, I would never have to see them again.But much like most fantasies, once came to the realization, the facts on the floor don't quite match the eyesight, therefore it was with the playset.My research on playsets commenced prior to planting season because I thought if we bought in the off-season, we would be able to get an acceptable price. I was mistaken. A couple of no realistic prices as it pertains to playsets. I don't know if the hardware is sound silver or if the structure is made of rare, endangered real wood, but bargains aren't to be had. THEREFORE I considered an option a friend advised: used playsets. One could get a whole playset for 1 / 2 the price. That experienced my name written all over it.Unfortunately, it did not have my husband's name written onto it. He was against the whole playset idea from the beginning--it would damage his lawn. If, however, I was going to insist he recognize he has children and they require toys and games, then he driven he would need a deluxe model worthy of being positioned atop his pristine yard.Still, I continued in my search for pre-owned models, convinced I could meet us both. And I was successful in finding a used playset in relatively good shape large enough for just two school-age kids. It even had a rock wall membrane. But the best benefit was it only cost about a thousand bucks. Victory was mine.Then my hubby described the playset was somewhere outside the tri-state area, and we didn't have a car large enough to transport it even if we did want to take the half-day drive to go get it. I nodded silently. I understood. And with a heavy heart, I quit on my used playset search.For those who have never had the knowledge of searching for a playset, it's a significant daunting task. There are many makes and models and levels and configurations to choose from, and everything the real playthings are extra. Perhaps you can buy a fairly cheap wooden body, but all your children can do is stare at it wistfully because it would be nothing more than an oversized sawhorse.I continued to shop around online for weeks until the day finally emerged when I discovered my dream swing set. It possessed everything I'd dreamed. Really the only problem was I couldn't afford it. During the period of the following weeks, I been to the playset several times, hoping to occur upon a sales. Then, mid-summer, it finally happened. The company experienced what constituted a storewide sales in playset circles: free gangplank weekend. I was sold.Free gangplank weekend was a huge coup for me, and I breathed a sigh of pain relief that the hunting and agonizing and planning was over. Then the sales guy struck me with the expenses. Just under $2,000. And it was FREE gangplank weekend!The playset has been bought and paid for, supplied and erected in our yard for nearly per year, but it hasn't been used much. Or maybe I should say it hasn't been played with around $2,000 would warrant. We haven't made our cash back onto it yet, but a few items have been worthy of their price. The swings and trapeze club. That's really all you have to. Take it from someone whose been used up.The youngsters still wander aimlessly about the yard, ignoring the one component, the priciest one, that they lobbied so vehemently, the fort. It rests empty except for the birds and the squirrels. But maybe if we installed a TV in there...
