Enough time when an incredible number of parents get ready to shell out thousands of dollars for small-scale backyard jungle gyms for their beloved children.For years I'd were able to successfully avert this dependence on suburban family life. EASILY was going to take out a second mortgage to fund a playset, my kids were heading to have to live on it--literally.The playset we eyed-up had a house-like enclosure and a picnic stand and was practically as big as my house. It was certainly the right dwelling for two smallish people. They could come inside for the winter but not until then. If we ran some electric wiring and plumbing related to the fort, I would never have to see them again.But much like most fantasies, once understood, the facts on the ground don't quite match the eye-sight, and so it was with the playset.My research on playsets commenced prior to planting season because I thought if we bought in the off-season, we might be able to get an acceptable price. I got mistaken. You can find no sensible prices when it comes to playsets. I don't know if the hardware is sturdy yellow metal or if the framework is constructed of rare, endangered timber, but bargains are not to be enjoyed. So I considered an option a friend recommended: used playsets. You can get a complete playset for 50 % the price. That acquired my name written all over it.Unfortunately, it didn't have my husband's name written on it. He was against the whole playset idea from the beginning--it would affect his lawn. If, however, I was going to insist he acknowledge he has children and they require toys and games, then he established he would desire a deluxe model worth being located atop his pristine grass.Still, I extended in my seek out pre-owned models, persuaded I could satisfy us both. And I was successful in finding a used playset in relatively good shape large enough for just two school-age kids. It even got a rock wall structure. But the best part was it only cost about a thousand bucks. Victory was mine.Then my hubby described the playset was anywhere outside the tri-state area, and we didn't have a vehicle large enough to move it even if we does want to take the half-day drive going obtain it. I nodded silently. I realized. And with a heavy heart, I quit on my used playset search.For those who have never had the experience of shopping for a playset, it's a significant daunting task. There are lots of makes and models and heights and configurations to choose from, and everything the real playthings are extra. I suppose you might buy a fairly cheap wooden body, but your children would be able to do is stare at it wistfully since it would be nothing more than an large sawhorse.I continued to shop around online for weeks before day finally arrived when I noticed my dream golf swing set. It possessed everything I'd imagined. The only real problem was I couldn't manage it. Over the course of the following weeks, I stopped at the playset several times, hoping to happen upon a deal. Then, mid-summer, it finally took place. The company got what constituted a storewide sale in playset circles: free gangplank weekend. I got sold.Free gangplank weekend was a huge coup for me, and I breathed a sigh of pain relief that the hunting and agonizing and planning was over. Then your sales guy struck me with the costs. Slightly below $2,000. And it was FREE gangplank weekend!The playset has been bought and paid for, shipped and erected in our yard for almost per annum, but it hasn't been used much. Or possibly I should say it hasn't been played with up to $2,000 would warrant. We haven't made our cash back on it yet, but a few items have been worth their price. The swings and trapeze bar. That's really all you need. Take it from someone whose been burned.The youngsters still wander aimlessly about the back garden, ignoring the main one component, the priciest one, for which they lobbied so vehemently, the fort. It rests empty except for the birds and the squirrels. But maybe if we installed a TV in there...
